Hawaiian Olympians: Legends of the Past

The Hawaiian HIstorical Society, the Hawai‘i State Library, and the Hawai‘i Chapter of U.S. Olympians invite Society members and friends to attend a special program, Hawaiian Olympians: Legends of the Past, on Thursday, September 9, 2004, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Hawai‘i State Library, 478 South King Street in Honolulu.

The program will include a panel of Hawai‘i Olympians from different eras and sports along with an illustrated presentation composed of photographs from the Olympics. The moderater will be Honolulu Advertister sports journalist Wesley Nakama. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the panel.

The program is free and open to the public. Free parking is available on the grounds of ‘Iolani Palace.

Related Events

Two related exhibits will be at the Hawai‘i State Library from August 15 to September 15, 2004.

The first is the award-winning ‘Aukai to ‘Aukai. The exhibit includes photographs of Hawai‘i swimmers from the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm through to the modern era.

The second exhibit is a display of Olympic memorabilia through the years from the collection of Jin DeSilva, manager of the Doris Duke estate and a member of the 1948 Ceylon Olympic team. It includes pins, medallions, and collectibles dating back to the 1920 games at Antwerp.
